Investors have been planning to start Marble processing plants in the Mohmand special economic zone under the CPEC. These industrial units will generate around 18,000 direct jobs for locals.

Mohmand and the surrounding Bajaur and Khyber districts are rich in various marble stones and other minerals. Even then, these areas are known for extreme poverty and unemployment. However, the Mohmand SEZ, expected to generate around 18,000 direct jobs, can make the district a hub of employment and business opportunities.

According to a source, many industrialists have already started installing marble processing plants.

The SEZ was first envisaged by the Pakistan Stone Development Company to streamline the marble stone processing industry in the region.

The Mohmand Economic Zone management was later handed over to the KP Economic Zones Development and Management Company, a local government body.

A source in KPEZDMC said that the KP government wanted the project to become fully operational before July of 2021.

A technical officer at the KPEZDMC, Umar Shahid, said that tenders had been sought for the left-over works. A week ago, the Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company (TESCO) authorities visited the grid station being installed at the facility.
